Laura Klausutis was a staffer for Joe Scarborough back in 2001. Back then, Scarborough was a Republican lawmaker representing Florida’s 1st District. She was found dead in Scarborough’s office in Fort Walton Beach, FL. The coroner determined that she fainted due to a heart condition, and then hit her head on the corner of a desk as she fell.
Scarborough resigned from his office two months later.
President Trump has mentioned this case once before, in 2017, after Matt Lauer was let go from NBC for multiple sexual assault allegations.
“So now that Matt Lauer is gone,” Trump wrote, “when will the Fake News practitioners at NBC be terminating the contract of Phil Griffin? And will they terminate low ratings Joe Scarborough based on the ‘unsolved mystery’ that took place in Florida years ago? Investigate?”
It’s now getting attention once again.
For years people had discussed this case as more of a conspiracy type case, with rumors that Joe and his staffer were having a relationship. The truth of that is not known. However, many still question the suspicious death and timing of his resignation shortly thereafter.
President Trump brought this case back up, in a tweet, on Monday, calling for an investigation.
“'Concast' should open up a long overdue Florida Cold Case against Psycho Joe Scarborough. I know him and Crazy Mika well, used them beautifully in the last Election, dumped them nicely, and will state on the record that he is 'nuts'. Besides, bad ratings! #OPENJOECOLDCASE.
'Concast' is a reference to Comcast, the parent company of NBC/MSNBC, that the President says is corrupt and calls Fake News.
An MSNBC spokesman responded the the President's call for an investigation.
"Attempts to intimidate and bully the free press, including through the bizarre peddling of fringe conspiracy theories, will not prevent Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski or any of MSNBC’s journalists or analysts from holding power to account"
This could be an interesting topic to watch as the President has brought it up multiple times over the last few years. Does he think there's something there? Do you?
