Republican Sayreville Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour, 30, was killed outside of her home in New Jersey Wednesday evening following a shootout.
Dwumfour was shot multiple times according to police, as she was “while returning back home,” according to a former colleague, Mahesh Chitnis’s Facebook post.
Multiple reports are indicating that the shooting was believed to be a targeted killing, however, no motive has been released at this time.

Governor Phil Murphy issued a statement about her death, saying:
“I am stunned by the news of Sayreville Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour’s murder last evening in an act of gun violence,” adding, “Her career of public service was just beginning, and by all accounts she had already built a reputation as a committed member of the Borough Council who took her responsibility with the utmost diligence and seriousness.”
The prosecutor’s office issued a statement saying:
“This is an active and ongoing investigation anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area is asked to call Detective Rebecca Morales of the Sayreville Police Department at 732-727-4444 or Detective Michelle Coppola of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office 732-745-3477,”
