Stop Surrendering Education to the Radical Left

This Independence Day, a poll from Issues & Insights revealed that only 36% of adults aged 18-24 said they were “proud to be American,” compared with 86% of those over the age of 65. This shouldn’t be surprising. America’s children have been raised in a system dedicated to the proposition that America itself is evil, a repository of discrimination and bigotry, a country founded in sin and steeped in cruelty.

This week, for example, the National Education Association, the single largest teachers union in the country, passed a resolution pledging to “Share and publicize … information already available on critical race theory (CRT)”; “Provide an already-created, in-depth, study that critiques empire, white supremacy, anti-Blackness, anti-Indigeneity, racism, patriarchy, cisheteropatriarchy, capitalism, ableism, anthropocentrism, and other forms of power and oppression at the intersections of our society”; and “Join with Black Lives Matter at School and the Zinn Education Project to call for a rally this year on October 14 — George Floyd’s birthday — as a national day of action to teach lessons about structural racism and oppression.”

Meanwhile, the American Federation of Teachers is hosting radical grifter Ibram X. Kendi, who preaches on behalf of overt racial discrimination.

Now Americans are banding together to fight back against the indoctrination of its children. States have begun to ban the indoctrination of CRT in schools, for example. But some thinkers are fighting back, suggesting that such content standards undermine the notion of a liberal education.

In the pages of The New York Times, for example, a bipartisan group of thinkers excoriate such legislation as “un-American.” They argue, essentially, that the educational mission of “helping turn students into well-informed and discerning citizens” is undermined by such restrictions.

But this completely misreads both the purpose of American education and the state of American education. First, the purpose of public education is to create "well-informed and discerning citizens."

But "citizens" is a specific word with a specific definition. According to Aristotle, a "good citizen" is a person who upholds the Constitution of his particular polis. If we teach our students to be bad citizens in the Aristotelian sense -- citizens who disparage the polis with lies, who engage in tribal politicking rather than civic friendship, who insist that truth be subsumed in favor of intersectional sensitivities -- we will wind up as a country with no future.

Second, American public education has all-too-often become a tool of those who wish to produce anti-citizens: those who wish to tear down the systems in the name of some higher or lower purpose. No society can survive this in the long term. K-12 public education was not designed to be a free-for-all; standards and practices must be established.

The only question is whose standards and whose practices. For the past several decades, the answer seems to be the radical left's standards, undermining key American principles like individual rights and equality before the law in favor of a utopian redistribution of outcome based on group identity. It is one thing to discuss the ideological perversion of CRT in order to combat it; it is another thing to indoctrinate in its central tenets. Our education system is currently far more likely to do the latter than the former.

That must stop. Good citizens have an obligation to stop it. Whether that happens through the mechanisms of civil rights lawsuits or through the mechanisms of local school board elections or through the mechanism of state legislation -- all appropriate tools when it comes to defining how our children ought to be educated at public expense -- radical indoctrination of our children must stop. To do anything less would be un-American.

  1. Liberal Eduction is a joke. Why do almost all of the colleges and universities ban and protest conservative speakers?

Time to outlaw all teachers unions also tv cameras in each classroom so that parents can monitor deviant behavior on the part of the teachers. No influence from the black lives miscreants and CRT is banned nationally and all schools fined heavily who are already using it.
We also DEFUND all schools who are teaching Marxism in all of it’s evil forms.

  2. Solutions:
    Go Home school
Reuse idle K-12 schools for local Ed needs (Non Govt)
    Charter schools expand X100
    Hybrid Education
Reuse closed schools for local community events since No teachers No schools
    Apply nationwide

  3. Pissed Off Patriot is absolutely correct; liberal education IS a joke! But it’s a very bad one: it’s all a part of what David Horowitz states in his book DARK AGENDA – the Left’s war against Christianity. (If you read this book, you will be FURIOUS about parts of it!) This war is a steady, grinding, unending, lying battle against all that’s good, and a promotion of all that’s E-V-I-L! No kidding, folks, it’s really bad news . . . and it’s all the Democrats’ doing!

  4. Every parent should pull their children from school, homeschool them…or hold them out until..the teachers union is dissolved..and radical agendas are removed from curriculum…perhaps shorten the school day so all there is to learn is math, english, science, and American history focusing on the Constitution,Bill of Rights and the make up of the government and how they work.

  5. The Novel 1984 is supposed to be a warning to the future not a training manual.

  6. He who controls the minds ,controls the future. That is the lefts motto…the first step is too destroy the teachers union.Next would be to monitor what is being taught.Perhaps only the 4 basics should be taught ..English,Science,Math and History…American a positive well as how our government is supposed to work.Otherwise it may be time to stop sending our children to public schools and put an end to sending them to where the real commie cesspools are..the Colleges and universities. Why do you need a college education for most jobs that really don’t need one?Because they want to further usurp the role of parents..destroy our childrens faith and cause division in the family. There is a spiritual battle going on right now is aimed at destro=ing the family..look at the great gains radical agends have made BLM(commies)LBGTV(perversion)…a return to faith in God needs to be the first step…God says..”if My people pray,I will heal their land” what are we waiting for.Start organizing prayer well as starting with your own families.
